Style Stalker: WhoWhatWear

/ Monday, July 18, 2011 /
There are about 10 million fashion blogs out there. Some good, some bad, some just ugly. But one that I return to constantly as a sort of online style bible is WhoWhatWear. Started by some net-savvy former Teen Vogue editors, it has blossomed into one of THE go-to sites to see new trends, find inspiration, or just enjoy the fashionable scenery.

Today I want to share one of their "Style Stalker" articles because this girl's style just screams "Cotton Mill".  A mix of lady-like and fashion forward, classic and trendy, Moldovan style blogger Doina Ciobanu has great style. If she lived in Nashville and not Moldova, I know we would see her browsing through our racks, picking up Alice + Olivia, DVF,  Milly, and more.

Meet the Stylists: Cacky

1. What is your fashion background?

As an artist, I see fashion as art. Styling a customer from head to toe is like painting a blank canvas and creating art.

 2. Who is one of your style icons?

I have several style icons: Jackie Kennedy, Coco Chanel, and Audrey Hepburn. I love them all for their femininity, simplicity, and elegance.

3. What is a trend you love this season?

Peplums- the utmost feminine garment. Peplums can be attached to coats, dresses, blouses, & any other waist-concealing garment.

4. How do you describe your personal style?

Simple, classic & casual. My closet is filled with staples, but I enjoy layering, accessorizing, and embellishments. I tend to dress up a casually classic outfit with jewelry and accessories- especially big necklaces!

5. What blogs of magazines do you read to keep you inspired?

Harpers Bazaar & Vogue

Cacky's Top 5

Lee Angel enamel chain link necklaces

Alice + Olivia leopard trench

Mark and James suede leather vest

Nanette Lepore jacket and Alice + Olivia blouse
A+O shorts and sweater

Swan Ball 2011

/ Tuesday, June 21, 2011 /
Every year in June,  Nashville decks themselves in out in their finest to benefit Cheekwood Botanical Gardens at the Swan Ball.  At The Cotton Mill, we look forward to this time every year to help glam up the guests; we dressed quite a few lovely ladies this year. Here is just a sampling (hopefully more pics to come! If you attended the Ball in a Cotton Mill gown, comment on this post and we will get in touch and post your photo):

Street Style: Nicole Miller

These just came through our inbox from Nicole Miller and we had to share. I'm loving the way they styled this photo shoot with their Nicole Miller Studio line- flowing, colorful and summery with a downtown edge. Any of these could easily become my summer uniform. Plus, they used some amazing shoes! Enjoy.

What is your summer uniform this year?

Style Spotlight: Milly NY

/ Wednesday, June 8, 2011 /
Oh, Milly! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
1. Gorgeous, classic silhouettes
2. Vintage-inspired prints and fabrics
3. Amazing attention to details (unique buttons, trim, patterned linings)
4. The way it sets you apart in a crowd of the same old thing!

There are many more reasons to love Milly, but you should really just come see for yourself.  This year, Milly NY celebrates 10 years of fashion by introducing handbags, jewelry, and even a line of children's clothes (for your little Mini Milly!).  Inspired by the ever-glamorous and bohemian chic Peggy Guggenheim (the famous muse and art collector), the Spring 2011 collection has been a spot on mixture of luxurious fabrics and vibrant summer colors; we just got in a shipment with some fabulous pieces in it (these are just a few):

Then, head over to Stylelist.com to learn how to get the runway look yourself (they used lots of peachy blush, matte coral lipstick and natural waves in the models hair to get that fresh-faced, effortlessly chic look. Perfect and simple for summer!).
